This week is the 50th anniversary of my favorite book, “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. I have decided to read this book with my oldest son, Colt. He’s 11 years old and I think is old enough to understand many of the themes. We read the first chapter last night.
Before we started, Colt asked, “Why would anybody want to kill a mockingbird?”
Borrowing a quote from the book I said, “It’s a sin to kill a Mockingbird. Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy.”
Colt replied, “I bet God doesn’t mind if you kill a squirrel or two – they are annoying!”
We agreed that a sequel titled, “To Kill a Squirrel” would be an instant best seller!
