Hula Hoops, Pogo Sticks and 4 Square – Remember Those?
“Be Home Before Dark!” was the extent of my curfew when I was growing up. We were outside everyday after school playing Kick-the-Can and having Hula Hoop contests (which I lost EVERY time). The bad news is that we are so terrified of the real Boogie Man that’s out there lurking that we keep our kids pinned up and safe indoors. But I think we as parents can re-introduce our kids to some of our favorite childhood past-times – even if it is only in our driveway.
Plus – I was stunned how many calories you burn doing these activities – take a look!
Hopscotch –255 calories an hour
Dodgeball- 390 calories an hour
Pogo Stick- 600 calories an hour
Jump Rope- 750 calories an hour
Hula Hoop -800 calories per hour
So I say – grab a jump rope and some sidewalk chalk and Hop To It with your Kids!
