Easter Finest

There are many advantages to having boys. No fussy hair bows. No princess bedspreads in bright pink rooms. No discoveries of smashed lipsticks or broken eyeshadow in your make-up drawer. No emotional outbursts at slumber parties. In my opinion, boys are simply less maintenance. That’s not to say that there are some advantages of having girls. #1 on that list are the clothes.

If you walk into any department store, the size difference between the boy section and the girl section is dramatic. Although I haven’t whipped the tape measure out –by simply eyeballing it, I can safely say that the girls section is typically three times larger than the boys section. Mothers of boys are limited to khaki, denim and t-shirts with cartoon characters or monster trucks. Day to day, it’s not that big of a deal. However, with Easter around the corner, I am hoping to find something a little more exciting than a navy blazer and twill pants.

On today’s show, Erin Ledding from Babies R’ Us shared some Easter Fashions for kids. I liked her immediately because she brought more little boy models than little girls. Although most of the outfits were designed for babies and toddlers (I doubt I could get my three-year-old in a bunny jump suit without removing the cotton tail and the bunny ears), I was impressed that neither denim nor khaki were represented in the entire collection.

If I had a lot of money and any talent and/or interest in design, I would open a specialty clothing store for little boys. I would come up with creative alternatives for moms frustrated with limited selections. Until that day, I have to come to terms with the fact that my seven-year-old is officially beyond the cute stage and that this is the absolute last year my three-year-old can wear a sailor suit.
