Celebrity Trends – TRANSLATED

Celebrities show off their style and have enormous budgets to fill their closets. Let’s face it ladies, it can get a little depressing watching Desperate Housewives and then having to go into your Desperate Closet. Plus, wearing those cute trendy clothes can look a little ridiculous in the carpool line.

Thank goodness for people like Paige Money. She owns a little boutique in Fort Worth called “Charmed I’m Sure”. Her clothes are trendy, fun, but appropriate for real women doing real things like going to soccer games and grocery shopping. She offers the following tips for translating celebrity style into practical ready-to-wear.

Q: We are bombarded with celebrities and their fashions on a daily basis. What are some mistakes we make when trying to follow their fashion leads?

A: Moms who are looking to dress trendy in real life should look out for hemlines that are much too short and necklines that plunge a little too far. Also, spaghetti straps that show bras are not so appropriate during the day especially when at school or sport activities. Put a cami over a tank top for a cool layered look.

Q: We’re seeing a lot of Grecian style dresses that are long and flowy but too low cut. How can we translate that and make it everyday wear?

A: We love the feminine look of a Grecian style dress. It has a nice silhouette. You can shorten the dress while keeping the neckline. You can wear a tank under it to keep modest. Put it back with some leather jewelry, and you get a great celebrity style.

Q: We love the black and white, but this can be a little much for a school function. What do you recommend?

A: Black and white patterned dresses have been a favorite of stars this season. It is a very romantic look and so fresh. There are many options out there where the hemline is dropped down several inches. A higher neckline keeps the look very feminine.

Q: Bright and bold colors in floral print have been making there way through celebrity closets. What can we change about this hot trend to make it more wearable?

A: This dress really pops, but it is much too short and perhaps a little TOO bold. You can tone down the color a little while still keeping the colorful floral print. I’d also recommend bringing down the hem line quite a bit. We want to be able to bend over without worrying about it.

Q: Who can possibly wear this mini dress out of the house? Only Victoria Beckham!!!

A: Instead of bringing down the hemline, you can simply put the mini dress back with a great pair of jeans. This look has tons of glamour and common sense.

Q: Is every trend meant for everyone?

A: No!! Follow trends but don’t forget you own sense of style. Remember to choose styles that compliment your body shape. Don’t choose styles that make you uncomfortable. Stay true to yourself. Choose trends to follow that reflect your personality. Not everyone can wear bright floral prints or zebra print for that matter. Keep some of these trends on the red carpet rather than in your closet!
